Solar Insect Killer vs Solar Mosquito Trap: What’s the Difference?
Which one does your farm, orchard or courtyard actually need? — by Shandong FOSIBO Energy Technology Co., Ltd.

Search “solar bug zapper” and you will see two very different products sitting side by side: the heavy solar insect killer lamp for farms, and the small solar mosquito trap for patios. They look similar, but they are built for completely different pests, spaces and budgets. This guide breaks down the real differences so you don’t buy the wrong one.

1. Who Is Each One For?
Solar Insect Killer Lamp Solar Mosquito Trap
Primary target Moths, beetles, leafhoppers, fruit flies, large field pests Mosquitoes, gnats, small flying insects
Typical space Orchards, tea plantations, open fields, fish ponds (1–2 ha each) Courtyards, gardens, resorts, patios (a few hundred m²)
Buyer Farmers, agri-projects, distributors Homeowners, hotels, resort managers
FOSIBO models FBD Series / FBF Series (e.g. FBD-2, FBF-1, FBF-7) FBA Series (e.g. FBA-20 Mosquito Killer)
2. Capture Method: Grid vs Suction vs Both
The biggest technical difference is how the insect dies:

Insect killer (electric grid): a 4800V high-voltage grid vaporizes large insects on contact. Best when you need a high, visible kill rate on a farm scale (FBD Series).
Insect killer (wind suction): an eco UV lamp plus a high-speed fan pulls insects into a collection box — no electric shock, no smell, ideal for organic farms and tea (FBF Series).
Mosquito trap: lower voltage (around 1200V) and a smaller fan sized for tiny insects. Built to be quiet and safe near people (FBA Series, IP55 for humid areas).
3. Coverage and Power
Coverage: an insect killer lamp covers roughly 1–2 hectares; a mosquito trap covers a courtyard or garden (a few hundred square meters). You cannot replace ten mosquito traps with one farm lamp — or vice versa.
Battery: farm lamps carry 15Ah–40Ah batteries to survive 2–3 cloudy nights; courtyard traps use smaller cells sized for nightly patio use.
Pole height: FBD/FBF models mount on a 3-meter pole to clear the crop canopy; mosquito traps sit on a table, wall or short stake at human height.
4. Safety and Noise
Farm electric-grid lamps make a faint “pop” when they kill — fine in a field, annoying on a patio. Wind-suction and mosquito models are nearly silent. If the unit will be near where people sit or sleep, choose a wind-suction or low-voltage trap (FBF / FBA). All FOSIBO outdoor units are weatherproof; the FBA and FBF-12 are rated IP55 for waterside and humid use.

5. Price and ROI
Insect killer lamp: higher unit cost, but it protects tons of crop — a single season’s pest loss on one hectare often exceeds the lamp price. Payback is measured in crops saved.
Mosquito trap: lower cost, payback measured in comfort and fewer bites for a home or resort. It is not a crop-protection tool.
